Bridging Theological, Cultural, and Political Divides

The Graduate School of Theology (GST) prepares students for deep theological engagement, transformational impact, and active leadership in public life. It is the result of a merger between San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS) and the University of Redlands, with a shared commitment to core values and academic excellence.

The GST includes San Francisco Theological Seminary, Shaw Chaplaincy Institute, and the Center for Innovation in Ministry. Together we are committed to social justice, spirituality, and innovation—nurturing more equitable and inclusive ministries to create inspired and united communities.

Presbyterian since our founding in 1871, SFTS continues to lead theological graduate studies as the only Presbyterian Church U.S.A. (PCUSA) seminary in the west. The ecumenical nature of the Presbyterian Church welcomes all Christian faiths for study, and our love of neighbor expands academic opportunities for interfaith and inter-religious world engagement.

As a community, we are united in the desire to create an inclusive atmosphere where diversity flourishes in all its forms. We are called to live within God’s creation by pursuing justice, knowledge, dignity, and well-being for all people. Learn More
